Jonny Godsmark - A Profile

Newcastle United's Jonny Godsmark, who started in this afternoon's friendly, is expected to agree a six month loan deal at Edgar Street.

This slightly edited profile is from Newcastle United:

Godsmark, who is 20 in September, made his reserve team debut for Newcastle United in the Northumberland Senior Cup against Walker on 16 October 2006, and then scored his first reserve goal after coming on as a substitute in the FAPL Reserve fixture at Wigan on 24 January 2007.

Slight of build, Jonny is a skilful ball-playing wing man who also struck two goals for the second string in 2006/07.

Made his first senior appearance (as a substitute) for United in the 0- 1 away friendly defeat at Hull on 1 August 2007.

Virtually an ever present with the second-string in 2007/08, notching a very respectable 9 goals to finish top scorer.

Signed professional contract with United in 2008.

Here's an article written by Ed Harrison last January which has a few words from Godsmark.

Jonny Godsmark Developing Well At Newcastle

Jonny Godsmark, Newcastle’s 19 year-old attacking midfielder made a great start to 2009 last night when he made two goals and scored the other in the Reserves 3-0 win against Bolton Wanderers at Whitley Park.

And with Joe Kinnear urging the Newcastle youngsters today to take their chances when they come, no doubt Jonny will have impressed Kinnear last night with his all action display.

Johnny is very quick and of course was the Reserves’ star last night and Joe Kinnear and Chris Hughton are making it regularly to see the Reserve team games, so he will have enough chances to impress Joe and Chris.

Jonny said today:

“It’s always the hope,” “All you can do is impress in reserve matches with Joe and Chris watching the games.”

“That’s all you can do, and if you’re lucky enough to get a chance in the first team, then you’ve got to take it.”

“I was pretty pleased with my own performance, and it was good for the team to get a good win.”

“For the first I was lucky enough to get it past the left-back, and I’ve ran 20 yards down the pitch. Nile’s made a good run, and I’ve spotted him. He never usually misses them.”

“I skipped past the left-back again for the second, and put a nice ball to Ryan, and he made the goal. It was a very clever dummy, and Frank’s finished excellently.”

“For my goal I made a run and it was an excellent run by Nile. It was a great start to the second half, and it killed the game off.”

Joe could do a lot worse than give Kazenga LuaLua and Johnny a run out late in some of the first team games this season, when it’s appropriate, and see how they perform.

Godsmark was an almost ever present with the Reserves last season, and scored a respectable 9 goals to finish top scorer.
