"The Mariners" were formed in 1878 and were originally known as Grimsby Pelham. The following year they changed the name to "Town" and purchased land at Clee Park that became their ground until 1889. A one-year stay at Abbey Park was followed by a move to the present site at Blundell Park. The Stadium currently has a capacity of 9546 and is all-seated. Visiting fans are accommodated in the Osmond Stand at one end of the pitch and admission is quoted on their Official Site as being Adults £18, Senior Citizens and Young Adults (15-18) £12 with Juniors at £8. Grimsby are currently offering a £2 earlybird discount for tickets purchased by the Friday before a Saturday match. Fans are reminded that a biting wind from the North Sea can make a visit a chilly affair so take a coat!
By car - M5, M42, A42, M1 north.
Leave M1 at junction 32 joining M18. Leave M18 at junction 5 and join M180. The M180 joins the A180 about 15 miles from Grimsby. Follow the A180 and when the dual carriageway ends at the end of the A180 you meet a roundabout. Take the second exit over the railway flyover into Cleethorpes Road; continue along Cleethorpes road and then Grimsby Road. The ground is on the left near to MacDonald's. There is no Car Park at the ground, therefore only street parking in the side streets to the left and right after passing MacDonald’s. Distance about 200 miles – allow at least 4 hours. Postcode DN35 7PY
HUISA – departs Radford's at 8.30 am. Fare £21 (£22 non-members). Bookings through Club office on 08442 761939.
FUNBUS – departs Radford’s at 8.45 am. Fare expected to be around £20. Contact Chesh on 07852 222294.
Alehouses - The traditional "visitors" Pub, The Leaking Boot is reportedly closed which restricts the chances of a swifty close to the ground. My advice is to head for the area around the railway station. Just inside the station entrance, you will find the "Number 2 Refreshment Room" which regularly receives an entry in the CAMRA GB guide. A little further towards the town centre is Willy's Bar and Brewery, which can be found on Highcliff Road. Nearer the ground, The Blundell Park Hotel accepts away fans and does a reasonably priced lunch. About half a mile before the ground you’ll find The Rutland where both home and away fans are known to mix well. The Imperial near the ground is for home fans. The sea front is a twenty-minute walk from the ground and offers a variety of licensed establishments.
Chip Shops - Josh’s near the now closed Leaking Boot is recommended near the ground as are "Beckett’s Fish Restaurant" in Market Street and "Seaway" on Alexandra Road close to the sea front.
Enjoy.
