The warnings that supporters might have needed binoculars to watch this afternoon's League Two at the Don Valley were correct. However fears expressed by Hereford United chairman Graham Turner about the pitch itself were unfounded.
Hereford United supporters were sat in the one corner of the main, and only, stand and in truth it was difficult to distinguish the players towards the far goal.
On top of the poor view there wasn't much hope of raising the team's spirits as all the noise from the supporters was coming from the same side of the ground. In any case there was little to get excited about during the first half.
However as the second half progressed it just looked that the Bulls were coming into the game and the supporters sensed that at least the Millers were being contained.
It was still somewhat of a shock when Gavin McCallum scored. Definately one point gained.
The Don Valley Stadium isn't suited to football. However Rotherham are lucky to have a stadium close by that they can use after being deprived of their previous base.
Meanwhile stewards at football grounds aren't always seen in a good light by visiting supporters. But the stewards today were both friendly and helpful.
Finally what is this object perched above the ground?
Update Monday: Hereford United supporter Tristram Sterry explains what the object is:
The object in the photo is the container that held the Olympic style flame for the world student games in 1991. DV was specifically constructed for the WSG.
Sheffield council tax payers are still paying for it. Glad -I now live in Rotherham MBC area! See you all at Bradford.
