Harvey, Vaughan and Chester

Jimmy Harvey might be facing his most difficult job to date having taken on the task of being the manager of Chester City.

However the former Hereford United player has told the Chester Chronicle that he's very happy to be back in work.

"It’s better working than not working, so that was one reason why I had the motivation to come to Chester and take the job on. But the Chester job was one that I have been interested in over a number of years. I worked here in the early 1990s when Graham Barrow was at Chester, but unfortunately he couldn’t take me on at that time.

"I know it’s not going to be easy, but I’m just delighted to be back in work again because I love my job and it’s not very nice when you’re not working.

"I've still got to talk to Stephen Vaughan about the possibility of strengthening the current squad by bringing players in. I am a little bit short on numbers in the squad at the moment and we may need some players to come into the squad, but I’ll have a good look around the squad first before making my mind up.. Both Morecambe and Forest Green were at the lowest they could be when I joined them."

Meanwhile chairman Vaughan has spoken to the Leader.

"There have been a number of decent names who have raised their heads for the Chester job, and one of them was Jim Harvey. I've made a lot of mistakes during my time at Chester and I've rushed into making appointments and brought previous managers back, but Jim Harvey has always shown an interest and he's moved back to the area to live in Bebington.

"He has vast experience of football at Conference level and people now have to understand that we are a Conference club. I've known Jim for a number of years and I've appointed him because I feel he can keep the club in this division.

"He's worked before with a small budget and he's got a brief from me to go out and sign players in time for our home match on Saturday against Rushden and Diamonds"
