Time Up for Loan Players

The loan spells of Danny Blanchett, Craig King and Mark Marshall are assumed to come to an end after next Saturday's (October 17th) home fixture against Chesterfield. Their original deals were announced on September 17th.

And James Walker's spell, which was announced on October 22nd, ends just before the away game at Bradford.

With the return of Jonny Godsmark imminent, manager John Trewick may decide that he has enough cover without trying to renew Marshall's loan from Swindon.

Danny Blanchett has appeared to be Trewick's first choice to partner Darren Jones in the heart of defence. It appears likely that, should Peterborough agree, more might be seen of Blanchett at Edgar Street.

As regards Craig King who will be 19 next Friday, Trewick has already stated he would like to extend his loan from Leicester.

For an eighteen year old King has potential and can play in several different position as witnessed again yesterday against Rotherham. Any extention to his loan would be welcome.

Which leaves James Walker. There is little doubt he is unlikely to get first team games with Southend at present so another loan deal may be possible should Trewick decide he would like to keep hold of him.

One factor that Trewick will have to take into account with any new loan deals will be the cost. With 29 players on the books at present, he may be under some pressure to cut that number. Perhaps loaning out a few of the 'reserves' could be an option.
