Chester Decision Delayed

Chester's fate has been delayed until an emergency meeting of the Conference committee on Thursday.

Today's deadline, the third one to demand the repayment of outstanding sums to Wrexham and Vauxhall Motors, passed without payment of what is claimed to be just £12,500. The Conference have told Cambridge that their match with Chester tomorrow will go ahead.

A Conference statement (here) says they are extending the deadline "to enable the Football League to provide maximum assistance in drawing matters to a satisfactory conclusion."

Chester's argument over the unpaid debts is that they are owed substantial funds by the Football League for their parachute payment, however they are understood to have failed to qualify for the payment under current terms due to the fact that they are no longer the company that left the League in the summer.
