Subject to pitch conditions, The Bulls make their shortest trip of the season on Saturday to take on The Robins of Cheltenham. It’s maybe fortunate that the recent cold snap didn’t arrive a few weeks ago otherwise those on leave would have found their gardening tasks slightly more difficult. We’ll just have to hope that their newly appointed former carpet maintainer has had some influence on playing surface.

Cheltenham are, of course, relative newcomers to proper football as they entered the big boys League some 27 years after The Bulls led the way. Whaddle Road has a capacity of around 7000 with roughly 50% seated. For this visit, Bulls fans are to be located in part of the Carlsberg Stand, which is all seated. PLEASE NOTE – The Carlsberg Stand is RESERVED SEATING, which suggests that you will need to sit in your allocated seat. Fans who visited last season will recall the chaos that followed the lack of proper stewarding and you are therefore advised to arrive in good time to find your seats.

The game is all ticket with no sales on the day. Tickets should be purchased from HUFC offices. Adults £20, Concessions £14 (over 65 and students with NUS card), U17’s £7.

Coaches
HUISA – departs Radford’s at 12.30 with a fare of £11 (£10 for members). Seats can be booked through the Club offices during normal hours (08422 761939)
FUNBUS – departs Wetherspoons at 11.30. Expected fare £9. Contact Chesh.

CAR – My suggested route is perhaps not the shortest but should provide a fairly trouble free journey. From Hereford, drive to Ledbury then follow the ring road to the end to join the A417 to the M50. Join the M50 easterly (sign M5) and continue to the M5 where you take the southbound carriageway (sign The South West, Tewkesbury, Bristol). Leave the M5 at J9 (sign Evesham) joining the A46. At the third set of lights (approx 2 miles) turn right for Cheltenham and right again at the junction onto the A435. After passing through Bishops Cleeve, you will enter Cheltenham with the Racecourse on your left. At the roundabout, take the third exit onto Evesham Road and then turn left at the lights into Wellington Road. Take the second exit at the next roundabout into Prestbury Road then first right into Whaddon Road. This route avoids driving through the centre of Cheltenham. Parking close to the ground is not easy and you may do well to park at the Racecourse and take the Park and Ride shuttle to the ground. Distance is about 45 miles and you should allow an hour. Postcode GL52 5NA.

ALEHOUSES – Depends what you’re looking for…Tailors in Cambray Place is a large Pub with big screens, Wadsworths on hand pump and fit barmaids although it’s not the cheapest. Close to The Racecourse on Harp Hill, you’ll find The Hewlett Arms serving Black Sheep, Stanway and Tetleys along with good food. The Sudeley Arms is on Prestbury Road and offers a decent range of ales, ciders and a perry. The local ‘Spoons is The Moon Under Water on Bath Road. Finally, The Kemble Brewery Inn, if you can find it, is a little gem in Fairview Street. It’s a small single room Pub but has a reputation for fine ales with often up to six on hand pump. Otherwise, there is a decent choice in the town centre. The nearest chip shop appears to be Pittville Fish and Chip Bar at 27 Prestbury Road.

Enjoy.
