Shaun Teale, the former Aston Villa captain, has sent his CV to Hereford United in the hope he might be considered for the vacant manager's job at Edgar Street.
"It's up to Graham Turner what he is looking for, if he is looking for a young manager or someone with experience," Teale told BBC Hereford and Worcester.
"I have emailed the club to let them know of my interest.
"It is a strange world as an awful lot of the time the jobs are taken before the man goes out of the door.
"It is quite a closed shop and the art is breaking into the closed shop and getting your coat on the peg.
"I have kept an eye on jobs coming up, and I know Graham Turner and I think it is an interesting job so why not apply for it?
"The one thing they have not done is score enough goals this season, the top scorer has only got eight," he reflected.
"They have also conceded too many, and the discipline is not the best, they have had a few sent off.
"Everything starts at the back, if your back four is tight, and there is discipline you will win games."
Now aged 45 Teale, a central defender, started his footballing career at Weymouth but was sold to Bournemouth for £50,000 shortly afterwards.
Three years later he moved to Aston Villa, for £300,000, where he later became captain. Afterwards he played at several smaller clubs before moving into management at Burscough, Northwich and Chorley. Lately he has been running a pub business.
