Grant for Blackfriars End Approved

Hereford United have announced that the Football Stadia Improvement Fund have agreed to help fund the redevelopment of the Blackfriars End of the Edgar Street ground.

Whilst the exact amount of grant that the club will receive has not been revealed, presumably because the final cost of the work isn't known as yet, it appears the club can receive up to £750,000.

Currently the club is awaiting planning permission from Herefordshire Council for the work.

"We are currently entitled to £750,000 as a total for the whole of the ground," said chairman Graham Turner in an OS interview.

"We were hoping to get that for the Blackfriars End. It was a key part of our calculations and the good news is that has been granted.

"It is 64% of the total cost or the maximum £750,000.

"We've obviously got to raise some money ourselves. We will be going into things like buy a brick. We might even do an early purchase season ticket.

"We'll see if we can get a local business to have the naming rights to it.

"We have to raise some money. We have most of it ring-fenced.

"I'm just waiting on planning consent."
