Keyte speaks to BBC H&W

Hereford United's new chairman gave an interview to BBC Hereford and Worcester on Friday. Whilst parts of it have already been reported on BN, here's a 'fuller' version.

"Stories you hear about big losses, I wouldn't have stepped in something that was losing half a million a year, I don't think any fool would.

"That's not the case here.

"Through good housekeeping and all credit to Graham Turner and Joan Fennessy they have recorded six consecutive years of profits. Small profits but that together with the passion and opportunity I haven't jumped into venture and been unsuccessful.

"I lie - I've had a couple of race-horses that were pretty useless!

"I think quietly if we can get a few more people to come along on a Saturday, we'll do okay."

Keyle then talked about appointing a new manager at Edgar Street.

"We got the nod last Thursday that we had been successful with our bid. And now it becomes a reality so you set sail.

"There have been a number of applications in and a few recommendations. Good people don't always apply in football. And we've wittled that down to three.

"The one guy we are interested in is actually on holiday. We saw a second one last night and we've got one more to see on Tuesday. And we are going to appoint from that three.

"I have to say that the level is quite surprising - a tribute to Hereford United football club as an attractive proposition whether the people are in work or out.

"Two of these three are in management jobs.

"Players will be back in on the 1st of July or close to that and we will have some new players by then."

Asked about the board of directors, Keyte continued:

"I've met Grenville (Smith) whom I knew and the other guy is on holiday.

"We're starting on a basis where Tim and I have come in and we've invited them to stay on as directors.

"Then in the fullness of time we would like to add to the skills and invite people.

"I think there are some excellent people in Hereford who ought to be thinking I could do something for the club as well without the financial committent and we would welcome discussions with those sort of people.

"It wouldn't want to be a big number but we could probably add a couple of people."
