News Round Up

Cheltenham have signed released Bournemouth striker Jeff Goulding on a one year contract. The 26 year old has a proven record at Conference South level, but managed just four goals in 44 appearances for the Cherries. He replaces Justin Richards, with Port Vale signing their 15 goal top scorer on a two year contract. The Valiants are to also give a trial to former Brighton striker Sam Gargan, who scored 17 times for Sutton Utd last term.

Torquay still hope to sign Burton defender Guy Branston on a permanent basis this summer after his successful loan spell last term. So far the two clubs and player have not reached agreement over the final year of his contract with the Brewers. Gillingham have rejected two bids for striker Simeon Jackson already this summer. Boss Andy Hessenthaler also wants to sign defender Matt Fish from former club Dover, where the player is out of contract.

Cheltenham's accounts for the 08/09 season show a loss of £825,000, with the auditors saying they "significant doubt about the company's ability to continue as a going concern". Chairman Paul Baker says losses for the 09/10 season will be significantly less. The local press reports that the club is £50,000 down on season ticket sales on this time last year, and that their playing budget has been cut for the coming season.

Forest Green's place in the Conference next season has been confirmed after Salisbury's appeal to the FA was rejected. They will now be put into the Southern League. Northwich's appeal on similar grounds was also rejected, and they will go into the Northern Premier.
