Former Hereford United manager Graham Turner has said he has several players in mind he would like to bring to the Greenhous.
Although he admitted he didn't know all the current players, he was aware that Shrewsbury needed a striker and also more pace in the squad.
However firstly in an interview with BBC Radio Shropshire, he spoke about his new club.
"The appeal of good facilities here, ambition about the club, the wherewithall to support that ambition gives me an opportunity to take the club forward.
"You look around the facilities here, the ground itself and so on - I've no reason to beleive we couldn't get in there (the Championship)
"I'm optimistic about the future of the club. It's certainly big enough to go forward, big enough to maintain a first division club, then who knows.
"I think the expectation of supporters now I've come back will be great. Having said that I'm ambitious. It could well be my last job and I want to finish my career with some success."
Reminded he will need some new players Turner continued:
"There are several players we've already talked about. It is obvious from the end of last season we need a striker and we also need some pace.
"I've already talked to a couple of players. There should be some positive announcements shortly."
