News Round Up

Bradford forward Gavin Grant has been convicted of murder. He was originally cleared of the same charge in 2007, but will now be sentenced on Monday. Northampton have signed Middlesboro defender John Johnson on a two year deal. The 21 year old had his contract at the Riverside cancelled to make the move after spending last season at Sixfields.

Accrington have agreed to sign former Liverpool trainee midfeilder Ray Putterill and veteran winger Andy Parkinson when their transfer embargo is lifted. Port Vale have been given seven days to agree to a £400,000 investment offer from US based hedge fund trader Mike Newton. Newton says that if the board turn down his offer he will lobby fans directly.

Gillingham have signed midfielder Danny Spiller on a deal until January. He spent eight years at the Priestfield before leaving in 2007, but has made just 13 League starts in stints for Millwall, Wycombe, and Dagenham since. Accrington have cancelled a friendly with Burnley as their £70,000 pitch upgrade is not ready yet. The hope the improvements, including sprinklers and drainage, will ease their problems after eight home games were called off last season.
