Preview: Bury vs Bulls

The Bulls travel north on Saturday to face Bury in a League Two match.

The two sides have been regular combatants in the basement division, with Bury completing a double over the Bulls last season. Their 1-0 win at Gigg Lane followed up a 3-1 win at Edgar Street. Overall Bury have the edge with 14 wins to the Bulls' 12, and six draws, although the record since the Bulls returned to the League reads two wins each and two draws.

The Shakers have won, drawn, and lost both home and away already this season. They had been a reasonably good side defensively until the last two weeks. Their opening five games of the season, including a 1-0 loss at Sheff Weds, saw them concede one goal in each match but they have leaked seven goals in the last two games against two sides that failed to score against the Bulls. Former Chester and Crewe forward Ryan Lowe has four goals so far this season with Andy Bishop contributing two more after spending most of last season on the injury list.

The Bulls have conceded 13 goals without reply since Janos Kovac's header at Crewe and it's time that record ended. At this point it really doesn't matter how it comes - how bad the ref's decision was for the penalty, whether Fleetwood meant to deliberately mishit it into Lunt's backside and causing it to deflect past the prone keeper, or even if Manset punched the ball into the net like some kind of taller, thinner, saner Maradona. Just one goal.

Bury vs Hereford United, Gigg Lane, Saturday 18th September, 3.00pm.
