Done could be a very good player

Matty Done never shone at Hereford United and his release by Graham Turner wasn't much of a surprise.

However he had a pre-season trial at Rochdale and won himself a contract. Yet he hasn't figured often this season and only played last Saturday when he came on as a sub after a hamstring injury to Joe Thompson early in the game against neighbours Oldham.

"Football is very funny with regards to how opportunities come along," Rochdale manager Keith Hill told the Manchester Evening News.

"Matt Done had a rollicking prior to this game. He wasn’t doing what I expected in training and he was becoming background music, and I find background music irritating.

"Against Oldham he performed to the standard he is capable of. He is a very privileged player – he has all the ability in the world.

"He plays golf off three and could easily get down to scratch, so he has that natural ability to play any sport quite comfortably. What we are asking him to do is turn up with the passion, commitment and endeavour to match that ability. If he does, he is a very good player."
