Local Derby for Hereford United

This afternoon Edgar Street will stage Hereford United's first local derby of the season, against Cheltenham Town.

Whaddon Road, the home of the Robins is just about one hour away from Edgar Street and is probably just a touch closer than the New Gay Meadow the home of Shrewsbury Town.

Hereford United chairman David Keyte will be hoping for a good gate this afternoon. When he took over from Graham Turner he was hopeful of a higher average gate than last season. However the disappointing form under Simon Davey has made that aim that little bit more difficult.

To date this season the average attendance at Edgar Street is 2353 with a top of 2980. Today's gate might just exceed that. The sunny weather over much of Herefordshire, the Bulls recent unbeaten form, and a decent following in the away end will all help.

And there is nothing like being at a game, watching live football, soaking up the atmosphere and supporting the Bulls.

Please note the Blackfriars End is for Cheltenham supporters this afternoon.

Meanwhile Michael Townsend will captain the Bulls this afternoon. Last season he was playing for Cheltenham.

"I was at Cheltenham for five years and I still know quite a few of the lads at the club," Townsend told the Worcester News.

"They have got some good players and have done very well so far this season.

"I am looking forward to the match but it is really just another game.

"There’s a bit of rivalry between the fans and local derbies are always good for the supporters. They always look forward to these games."

Finally, a reminder that Hereford United will feature on Football Focus today at 12.15pm. The programme is on BBC 2.
