Stockport Boss Calls For Direction

With confusion mounting over his continued presence at Stockport, caretaker boss Peter Ward has called for clarity over the club's future.

Ward claims that the fact that the club have both a temporary manager and temporary chairman leaves the club without leadership at the top, telling the Stockport Express: "I'm caretaker manager but there's no clarity beyond that. No one has told me how long I'm going to be caretaker manager.

"I think the club is lacking a bit of leadership at the moment. We've got an acting manager and an acting chairman. I think the club needs someone to take the bull by the horns. It would be a benefit to everybody and give the club some direction."

Ward, who earned his first win from eight games on Saturday, has continually been linked with a move to Port Vale as Jim Gannon's assistant, a post he held under the Irishman at Edgeley Park, while current Valiants assistant Geoff Horsfield is being linked with the full time job at Edgeley Park.

That link is now claimed to be down to one-time Valiants suitor Mike Newton. The US-based businessman had a £500,000 cash injection rejected by the Vale Park board in August but is now claimed by Horsfield to be in discussions to take a stake in Stockport. Stockport's current board have issued a vague statement confirming they would be open to serious investment talks.

On the pitch the Hatters have the worst home record in the division, and won just five points from 30 in 2011. At the bookies they are 4/11 to be relegated, with Barnet 1/3. The Bees have earned just six points from the last 30.
