Speaking to the BBC, Accrington benefactor Ilyas Khan has admitted the club is behind on wages and other bills.
Khan is still trying to resolve the ownership issue that has dogged the club for the last two years. Former Chairman Eric Whalley remains the official owner but Khan wants both him and MD Dave O'Neill, who originally struck a deal to buy the shares, to quit the club entirely. Khan says he is tired of covering debts while others provide nothing, and says he will no longer fund the losses until the situation is resolved:
"The club is behind on it's obligations to it's staff, the players, the Government, and other creditors. Some creditors are very friendly and prepared to look the other way - and I think the staff and the players are a significant element of those that have a lot of goodwill towards the club."
"Despite my hard stance I have sent money across in the last few weeks to keep the doors open, against my better judgement."
