League 2 Newcomers

The relegation and promotion issues have been fairly kind to The Bulls at the end of season 2010/11 providing a return to League 2 of Swindon, Bristol Rovers and old foes from years ago, Plymouth Argyle.  The possible downside is the return of a trip to east London for The Daggers.  From The Conference we are joined by Crawley and either Luton or AFC Wimbledon.

Over the next few days, BN will take a look at "The Newcomers" starting with…

Plymouth Argyle

The Pilgrims have occupied Home Park since it's opening in 1901.  In 2001, three sides of the ground were rebuilt replacing the two ends and one side with single-tiered all-seated stands.  The one remaining "old" stand dates from the late 1940's and is still used as the Grandstand.

The current capacity of Home Park is around 18,000 and it holds the distinction of being the most westerly and southerly Football League ground in England.

Visitors are usually accommodated in part of Barn Park end, which is seated and covered.  The ground is easy to drive too being well signposted and has a large free car park next to the stadium.  Plymouth is a good three-hour drive and can take longer in the holiday period so the possibility of a weekender exists if the fixture computer looks kindly on us.

In fact, Plymouth has plenty to offer besides football.  For anyone who has harboured a secret desire to visit a Hoe, Plymouth offers the perfect opportunity.  A walk down to the "front" will take you to the point where Sir Francis Drake was playing bowls before taking on the likes of Alonso, Casillas, Xavi, Puyol and the rest of their armada.  Another place of particular interest is the Mayflower Steps where, of course, the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America.

An early season Saturday would be just fine.
