Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler says he could not compete financially with Northampton over striker Adebayo Akinfenwa because of budget cuts at the Priestfield Stadium. He also expects to lose out in the race for Crewe striker Clayton Donaldson, with Crawley claimed to have offered him a deal that will make him their highest paid player. Hessenthaler has also denied interest in Dover pair Ross Flitney and Matt Fish.

Burton keeper Adam Legzdins is attracting several enquiries from the Championship according to club chairman Ben Robinson. Port Vale director Mike Lloyd was the only member of the board to attend Saturday's supporters meeting to discuss how they will vote at the upcoming EGM. He told the assembled fans that he expected the board to lose the vote, with fans voting at the meeting to remove both the current board and the block on any one person owning more than 24.9% of shares.

Shrewsbury winger Mark Wright is to undergo a hernia operation but is expected to be fit for the start of pre-season training. Oxford have appointed Malcolm Crosby as their new Head of Football Development. He previously had a stint as no.2 to Denis Smith at the club, and will be responsible for player recruitment across the club.

While Lincoln have six contracted players taking up a third of next season's budget, Cambridge boss Jez George says that six of his are taking up two-thirds of his reduced budget for next season. Five of them have agreed to go on the transfer list, while the sixth is considering their options after being offered a vastly reduced contract. Rushden say they have a meeting with the Conference on June 6th over their current financial problems, and have taken insolvency advice on their forthcoming winding-up order.
