Shrimpers Back Down To One Striker

Southend are back down to a solitary striker for the opening day game with the Bulls after new signing Liam Dickinson was ruled out.

Boss Paul Sturrock admitted last night that the 25 year old had an ankle injury, and very little pre-season training, telling the BBC "It would be silly to make him play against Hereford because we don't want him to keep on picking up injuries."

The Shrimpers fielded central defender Bilel Moshni as a striker alongside veteran Neil Harris in last night's goalless draw with Norwich. Tunisian Moshni played a number of times last season as a makeshift striker due to injuries at Roots Hall.
