Dixie McNeil Autobiography

Former Hereford United striker Dixie McNeil has put pen to paper. His book is entitled Dixie: The Autobiography of Dixie McNeil and will be released on November 1st.

This biography of Dixie McNeil captures the genius of the football legend who shot to prominence in the 1970s. He was instrumental in helping Hereford Utd and Wrexham FC To The second tier of the English football league For The first time in their histories. Dixie played in an era long before the silly money was paid to footballers.

McNeil started out with Leicester City but never played a first-team match at Filbert Street. A spell at Exeter followed, then a move to Corby Town. After transfers to Northampton and then Lincoln, McNeil signed for Hereford for £20.000 in 1974. His tally in 1975/76 was the highest in any of the Football Leagues that season, but he left the club after their relegation to Division Three in 1977 for £60,000 to Wrexham. He rejoined in 1982, but was a shadow of his former self and retired.

In all McNeil made 141 league starts for the Bulls and scored 88 goals.

McNeil is currently a football pundit on Radio Wales and has also been the summariser for a few Hereford United games on BBC Hereford and Worcester.
