Crewe Chasing Reinforcements

Next Saturday's opponents Crewe are chasing up to three loan targets with Thursday's deadline fast approaching.

The Railwaymen signed just one player this summer, backup keeper Alan Martin, with Dario Gradi opting to rely on their youth policy to bolster their first team squad. New boss Steve Davis' first move when he took over the side was to seek out reinforcements.

Two experienced forwards, including a big target man, and a left back are Davis' loan targets, with experience in the forward line sorely lacking at present. Saturday's win over Morecambe came thanks to goals from 17 year old prospects Max Clayton and Nick Powell, both England youth internationals, using their pace to produce goals on the counter attack.

Davis has also been working on the squad's fitness since he took over as he looks for a higher tempo performance than those seen in recent weeks. He told the club's official site: "I want to pressurise the opposition in making mistakes closer to their goal and for all of them to become sharper in their play."
