Downing Joins Barnet

Former Bulls loanee Paul Downing is one of two central defenders to join Barnet today.

The West Brom youngster, 20, played six times for the Bulls during a month on loan at Edgar Street, getting sent off in his final game. He had brief spells with Rotherham and Shrewsbury last season, but failed to play for either side.

Downing will challenge for the centre back spots with fellow former Bulls Darren Dennehy and Anwar Uddin. Manager Lawrie Sanchez has been especially critical of his defence, telling the press in the wake of their six goal drubbing by Burton:

“We’ve got two teams. We have a shambolic defence that probably isn’t good enough for League Two and a front six that are top of the table of League Two"

Also joining the Bees is Reading man Michael Hector, with the 19 year old having had a string of loans with a variety of Ryman League sides and a recent stint with Irish side Dundalk.

Meanwhile, ex-Bull Ian Foster has been relieved of his duties at Dundalk after two seasons at the helm. The 34 year old was axed after the final match of the season with his side seventh out of the ten teams in the Airtricity League.
