News Round-Up

Crewe have taken on two more trialists in striker Mark Jones and defender Osa Obamwonyi. Jones has scored 16 times for Deeping Rangers of the United Counties League this season, while Obamwonyi has been playing for Ryman League side Tooting and Mitcham. Swindon's board have defended themselves from criticism after agreeing a deal where The People newspaper will sponsor their FA Cup kit. It was that paper that broke the news of their financial irregularities that saw them demoted several divisions 20 years ago.

Plymouth have extended the loan of defender Ben Gibson until the end of January after having their transfer embargo lifted. Plymouth's staff will be paid October's wages today, along with around 14% of the money owed to them from the past year. Boss Carl Fletcher has been turned down by misfit Coventry striker Freddy Eastwood. The pair were former Welsh teammates but Eastwood has rejected a loan move after being frozen out at the Ricoh Arena.

Grimsby's accounts for the past season, their first in the Conference, show an operating loss of over £900,000. The auditors cast 'significant doubt' on the club's ability to continue as a going concern after turnover dropped by more than £600,000 following their relegation, while wages dropped by only £200,000.

Port Vale have been billed with the £52,000 cost of their summer tour to the US after they cancelled their agreement with former sponsors Ameriturf. The American firm claim new Vale chairman Peter Miller broke his contract with them, where he was - and the company claim still is - 'an officer and a director, when he negotiated a new deal for rival firm Blue Sky Investments with the club, and have threatened legal action if their bill is not paid.
