Crawley Set To Break Wage Rules

In probably the least surprising news of the year, Crawley's co-owner has warned the club may have to offload players to meet the Football League's salary capping rules.

Susan Carter told the Crawley News that the club were not meeting the 55% rule dictated by the Salary Cost Management Protocol, and could be forced to clear out players rather than bring in new additions during the January window after attendances only rose slightly following their promotion to the League.

The club were averaging just 1,000 supporters before last season's promotion charge increased gates to 2,535. This season the average has been just over 3,000, but Carter hints that they had budgeted for a lot more. She told the paper:

"I'm disappointed we are still only averaging 3,000 in league games and in all honesty I don't know what else we can do. If we are to sustain and build on what we have achieved we need to be getting it up to 4,500 as a minimum."

The Red Devils currently have over 30 players on their books with seven of them, including former Bull Ben Smith, currently out on loan.
