O'Kelly could be at Edgar Street Next Tuesday

Whilst Gary Johnson appears to be the bookies favourite to take over at Bristol Rovers after the sacking of Paul Buckle, the local press has named Sean O'Driscoll formerly of Doncaster and Bornemouth as a strong contender for the job.

A decision is expected as soon as Friday given the club play Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Saturday and travel to Hereford for a League match next Tuesday.

O'Driscoll has worked with former Bulls coach Richard O'Kelly since the latter left Hereford after a very successful two year spell with the Bulls. It very likely that if Driscoll gets the Rovers job O'Kelly will be with him.

So O'Kelly could return to Edgar Street next Tuesday. If he does he'll get a warm welcome from the crowd many of whom will remember him as the coach in charge in the season the Bulls scored over 100 goals.

Meanwhile Lee Mills, who was with Hereford United in the 2004/05 season, has quit as manager of Ellesmere because of family commitments.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time there but it’s not fair to Ellesmere if I’m only available for one game in every four or five which could be the way it goes now,” Mills told the Shropshire Star.

“I’ve enjoyed my time in manager and coaching over the last couple of seasons and hopefully in some capacity, I can get back into it at some point somewhere. It’s just not realistic time wise at the moment.”
