The following is a statement regarding a meeting that took place last night:
A group of Hereford United supporters met with Supporters Direct representative Kevin Rye last night to discuss the club's current situation and the possibility of forming a Supporters Trust.
It is clear over the years that the Bulls have entered into crisis every 15 years or so, with Supporters being instrumental in pulling the club out of the mire on each occasion. On this occasion, Supporters have raised over £22,000 towards outstanding bills and continue to raise further funds with the larger bills yet to be settled.
Supporters Direct have helped fans form over 300 Trusts at clubs across Europe with those Trusts having Boardroom representation at over 70 clubs. The most high profile Trust is at Premier League Swansea, where the Trust owns 20% of the club and has a seat on the board, while at Ebbsfleet the Trust has had to step in in the past week to pay the wages after the owners were unable to meet the shortfall.
Those behind yesterday's talks are to seek a meeting with HUISA as soon as possible to determine whether they would like to participate in the formation of the Trust, as they have previously explored the possibility.
The formation of a Supporters Trust is a long term project and it is envisaged that it will, eventually, seek a shareholding in the club and representation on the club's board. It is not intended to take over the club, but to provide assistance to the board and to channel ideas and fundraising into workable projects.
