News Round-Up

Portsmouth have asked their off-field staff to take a further 10% pay cut to keep the club running. The Administrator has kept quiet about claims from Portpin that the club was set to run out of money by Christmas, but told staff yesterday that the cut was necessary to avoid further redundancies with the proposed takeover from the Supporters Trust still to be resolved in the court.

The England 'C' side for their next game on February 5th has been named, with no Bulls in the squad. Forest Green have three players in the squad, with Luton and Macclesfield having two. Grimsby boss Rob Hurst says Luton have made a 'ridiculous' offer for recalled loan winger Marcus Marshall. The Mariners want to also sign the player but are expected to be unable to match the Hatters' bid.

Telford are set to miss out on the signing of free agent defender Gareth Owen. The 30 year old was released by Port Vale earlier in the month but is reported to be set to take a coaching job with Stoke instead. Bucks boss Andy Sinton is now targeting a defender with a Conference side with previous League experience. Former Bulls winger Lionel Ainsworth has signed for Aldershot on a two month loan from Rotherham. The 25 year old has started only six League games for the Millers since signing a two year deal in the summer.

It has been revealed that Luton are paying no rent on Kenilworth Road. The lease on the Council-owned ground says the club will not pay the £25,000 rent if they are not making a profit, with the lease still having nearly six years to run. Newport striker Aaron O'Connor is to miss a month after being stretchered off during their loss to Barrow at the weekend. The 29 year old has scored 17 Conference goals this term, 12 more than any of his teammates.

Rochdale have sacked manager John Coleman after a year at the helm. The former Accrington man failed to keep them in League One, and they have managed only a mid-table placing so far this term. The Spotland outfit have re-appointed Keith Hill as manager, with the 43 year old the only person to get them out of League Two in the last 40 years.

Former Bulls boss Richard O'Kelly is the subject of an official approach from Bristol City to return to his role as no.2 to Sean O'Driscoll. O'Kelly is currently working a similar role for fellow former Bull Dean Smith at Walsall. Birmingham have put their entire first team squad up for sale as they struggle to cover costs at St Andrews. Owner Carson Yeung faces money laundering charges in Hong Kong and is no longer covering losses.

Barrow are to finally sign defender Danny O'Donnell from Stockport after agreeing a permanent 18 month deal for the 26 year old. Hyde have signed loanee Chris Sedgwick on a permanent deal from Scunthorpe after a two month loan stay. The Tigers have also signed Rochdale midfielder Ray Puterill, with the former Accrington man leaving Spotland in the wake of John Coleman's sacking.

Dartford have lost 15 goal top scorer Harry Crawford to Barnet after the League Two side put in a seven day approach to the non-contract striker. The former Gillingham man turned down a permanent contract in the summer as he was seeking a return to the full time ranks.
