The Football League have told Portmouth's Administrators that they will throw the club out at the end of the current season if the Supporters Trust do not buy the club.
A late bid for the club was made yesterday but the FL say they are not interested in negotiating with another bidder 'at such a late stage' and that if the Trust bid fails to complete by the end of the season the club will be expelled regardless.
The club's Administrator acknowledged the statement, but made no further comment. They were expected to face expulsion at the start of next season under League rules if they had failed to complete a deal by August.
The Trust's bid still hinges on a court case to force the sale of Fratton Park, which is due to finally be heard in a weeks time.
