Herefordshire Council have given businesses and motorists just a months notice of major roadworks in the city centre.
Alterations to drainage around the Old Market site mean the council will shut the two lanes of Newmarket Street that run from Edgar Street roundabout to Commercial Road - for a month from May 12th.
Their preferred diversion route turns a 0.3 mile stretch of road into a 5.8 mile diversion around the city - a route that the Hereford Times says will be taken by the 11,000 vehicles a day that currently use the closed road.
