Shots Added To Long List Of Clubs In Financial Trouble

The list of clubs heading for financial trouble this summer grows almost daily, with Aldershot the latest to be under the threat of Administration.

The Shots had a shareholders meeting last night where majority owner Kris Machala vetoed a proposed new share issue that was hoped to bring £1million into the League Two relegation favourites.

Machala told the meeting he had held talks with a potential investor who "has a football heritage and that they will secure high quality overseas players whether the club is in the Football League or Conference". Machala says he will present details of the investment on Monday. Some have already suggested that the unnamed investor is the same person as having made a bid for Ebbsfleet, but this has not been confirmed.

The Shots last went bust in 1992 as they languished at the foot of the Football League. The phoenix club reached the Conference in 2003, and the League in 2008, but failure this season - on a budget reported to be 'top ten' - has seen massive losses this term.
