Worcester Warn Of Closure Threat

Worcester City have extended the deadline to sell their £100 season tickets, warning fans that the club faces closure if they cannot sell enough.

Sales have reached 340 of their 1,500 target after selling more tickets on Saturday after their original deadline. A club statement says they would have to double that figure to even consider continuing next season:

“The sad reality is that if enough people don’t come forward the board will have no alternative but to seriously consider bringing the curtain down on the club as it is not prepared to go forward without the confidence that it can fulfil its financial obligations during the coming season.

“The chips are down. Worcester City Football Club belongs to the people of Worcester. There are no millionaires waiting in the wings to save it.

The board of directors wish to place on record its thanks to those who have already committed to purchasing a season ticket. However, the stark truth is that if we cannot at least double this number of sales by May 10, the club’s future is in grave doubt.

"Surviving on an average gate of 800 has been hard enough whilst at St George’s Lane. However, if this is going to drop to around 300 at Kidderminster, the club’s future looks very bleak."
