After apparently failing to acquire a string of higher profile targets, Macclesfield have named caretaker boss John Askey as their manager for the coming season.
The long serving clubman will be assisted by former Silkmen player Efe Sodje, who was released by Bury earlier this summer after ending the season on loan at Barrow.
The Silkmen had been linked to a variety of bigger names, with the pile topped by former England and Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler. The Non-League Paper went as far as to claim the job was his, and that he would be working for free, but he pulled out of negotiations after getting cold feet.
The likes of John Coleman were also linked to the post, with the Silkmen board interviewing five people and chief executive Jon Harris promising to appoint an experienced manager who knew the Conference.
Askey lost four of his five games in charge at the end of last season following the dismissal of Steve King, and his only prior experience was a caretaker spell with the club in the 03/04 season.
