News Round-Up


Ahead of the weekend, Macclesfield signed midfielder Lewis Chalmers for a second time. The 27 year old was released from Moss Rose last summer, spending last season with three different Evo-Stik sides. Aldershot have signed winger Jaydon Gibbs on non-contract terms. The 23 year old is the twin brother of Arsenal's Kieran, but has been playing in the Isthmian League with Chipstead and Guildford.

Forest Green striker Matty Taylor has withdrawn from the England C squad to face Latvia on Sept 10th due to a knee injury that saw him sidelined this weekend. Cambridge have moved to clarify comments from boss Richard Money about coaches from title rivals Kidderminster and Barnet having input in the England C team, denying that Money intended to question the integrity of either Paul Fairclough or Steve Burr.

Stockport have accepted the resignation of manager Ian Bogie after just five matches in Conf North. The former Gateshead boss won only one point, leaving the Hatters one place off the bottom of the table. Accrington have confirmed that banned Managing Director Rob Heys has resigned as a club employee despite awaiting the outcome of his appeal against the severity of his ban.

Both clubs have issued statements after the Wrexham-Chester derby condemning parts of the crowd for their actions. Chester thugs were reported to have thrown seats at their Wrexham counterparts, who responded with flares. An offensive flag was also displayed by a section of the home crowd. Police closed local roads around the stadium and advised residents to carry ID to be allowed to move around the area, with the Chester fans travelling in a convoy with a helicopter escort.

The first Manager of the Month of the new season is Nuneaton's Kevin Wilkin, after their unbeaten start to the season. Player of the Month is Cambridge's Luke Berry, who scored three times in August. Cambridge boss Richard Money has accused Luton counterpart John Still of 'spin' after Still claimed new U's signing Michael Spillane was too expensive for the Hatters. Money says the player joined the U's for footballing reasons.

The size of the financial damage from Coventry's move to Northampton is revealed by the local paper, with the Coventry Telegraph reporting that just five of 26 players have sponsors this season. All 33 players and staff were taken last term with one company who had sponsored the club's manager since 1983 notably absent. The local University has also withdrawn it's sponsorship, while the club remains without a shirt sponsor.

Halifax have signed Accrington striker Marcus Carver on loan. The 19 year old youth team product netted his first senior goal in Stanley's cup win over Middlesboro last month, but has started in only four of his 19 appearances so far. Wrexham have sold teenage striker Bradley Reid to Wolves for a fee reported to be £200,000. The 17 year old has scored once in nine games for the first team, and will rejoin the Dragons immediately on loan.
