Tamworth have signed former Bull Gavin Mahon after a chance meeting.
Mahon was looking for a club in the Midlands, with his deal at Portsmouth due to expire, and met Lambs forward Darren Byfield on a night out. He told the Tamworth Herald:
"I just saw Darren and went and said hello. He asked what I was up to now and we got chatting from there. I was at Portsmouth after signing for them in pre-season, but I had moved back to the Midlands since then.
"I was going to start calling round the local teams, but Darren suggested coming to Tamworth. I took him up on his offer to come and speak to Dale Belford and I am glad I did as I have now signed and am really looking forward to helping the club pull out of trouble this season."
Mahon, who turned 37 today, played only three times for Pompey this term, getting sent off in his last game back in October. He played 85 times for the Bulls across three seasons in Division Four and the Conference, before a move to Brentford and a career that took in 600 games and Premier League football.
He is also planning a career in coaching: "I am doing my A-licence coaching badges and I am looking at getting into coaching one day. I think I have the experience to offer people when my career is finally over, but I also think I can offer it the players at Tamworth now.
"I want to do that in my time at the club, I want to be able to help out however I can. I am not on about taking up a coaching role, I am here to play, but I can help if needed."
