Our Henry

Len Weston's Last Stand was at Friday's fundraising gig:

Verden Allen of Mott The Hoople
was also in attendance
With no money still forthcoming from the ashes of Hereford United and fans unwilling to frequent the Starlite a fundraising gig for unpaid staff was arranged to be held in the Lions Den in the Black Lion Hereford. A call was made to Belfast to ask football fan Henry Cluney founder member of Stiff Littte Fingers and current lead singer of Nitelite regulars XSLF if he could help. A quick response came back and Henry would fly in to headline the gig for expenses only. Local rock outfit Phoenix (sic) apt name, agreed to play for free and provide all equipment with a third act Operation Rock also playing for free.

Henry was collected from Bristol airport. Now Henry is a "FOOTBALL MAN All day long" he supports Crusaders in his homeland Arsenal on the mainland and has had a soft spot for the Bulls since '72. Nibbo presented him with a personal signed photo from Ronnie. After the obligatory man hugs in arrivals Henry wanted to be updated on the goings on at Edgar Rd since his last visit in December.

He was shocked and saddened and couldn't wait to get to the Shire and meet the loyal fans of the club. The gig was packed and numbers were limited up into the Den with the security staff making sure all Health and Safety regulations were followed to the letter ensuring the well being of their customers on the premises.

Operation Rock kicked off the evening quickly followed by Phoenix warming up the crowd nicely for the main event. Henry kicked off with a joke about a tea bag being in the cup longer than England and then ripped through the usual crowd pleasers from Inflammable Material onwards with guest vocalists invading the stage at various points of the set.

Phoenix joined Henry for an encore which included a rousing Sex Pistols classic then joined the crowd in the new fans anthem of White Stripes "We're the black n white army". Henry mingled for chats and selfies long into the night with our hosts at the Black Lion finally removing stragglers at just gone 2am with huge amounts taken behind the bar.

The bucket collection was generously donated too and Nibbo was busy today finding out who was most need of funds after not being paid since February.

Thanks to all those that came along and it was good for a few hours to spend time with Happy Bulls Fans.
