Council take lead

Press reports today suggest that Herefordshire council have decided to take the initiative over plans to redevelope the Edgar Street area. They do not appear to want the developers to have control over what is proposed and so have commissioned a planning brief from expert estate agents. They will have to examine the financial viability of any proposals. The aim is to ensure that the final plan includes projects which the local residents want but are less attractive to the developers.

Also reported this week has been the opposition by residents close to the proposed new cattle market. Terry James, council leader, is said to be angry at what he slams as scaremongering and has asked opponents to the site at Hospital Farm, Burghill to come up with a "credible" alternative. The council would like to move the mart to this site as they already own it. Debate on the market move is now suspended until the revised UDP is published. in the autumn.

There have also been proposals for improvements to the A49, the main North-South route through Hereford, which runs next to the Len Weston stand .

All in all at least the Edgar Street redevelopement stays in the news and whilst the subject is being talked about it remains unlikely that any action against Hereford United will take place.
