The prize fund for the LDV Trophy is at risk after LDV announced it will enter adminstration today.
The Birmingham based van maker shut down production last week amid a cash crisis, with stockpiles of unsold vans building, and with a shortfall in the pension plan. It had recently won a contract to supply 250 vans to the Post Office, but was someway short of selling all the 12,000 vans made each year by their 1200 employees.
US private equity group Sun Capital intends to purchase the business, but no details have yet been released as to exactly what they would purchase.
LDV have sponsored the Associate Members Cup for the last six years, extending the deal until the 2006/7 season last year, with their previous parent company Leyland DAF also sponsoring it for seven years from the mid 1980's. LDV are also the official minibus and commercial vehicle supplier to the Football League.
