Barnet Face Uncertain Ground Future

Barnet may be forced to agree a groundsharing deal in the next 10 days, or could be forced out of the League.

Last seasons Conference winners were given 12 months to resolve a number of issues at their Underhill ground, but the re-elected Conservative council have now effectively blocked the club's hopes of playing at Underhill on the eve of their centenary on the site.

The council have decided that an access road to the ground, Priory Grove, is to be pedestrianised. The club planned to use the road as access to secure parking for the ground - a requirement for Football League grading, and the reason why Edgar Street gained a secure compound this season. Without access to the parking, the ground fails Football League grading, and the club face groundsharing for next season.

Worse still, the deadline to confirm to the League where they will play is just 9 days away, on May 26th.

The club believe that the Council's decision is challengeable in the courts, with the club having enjoyed access through the road for decades, but have no time to mount the challenge before the deadline so are likely to announce a groundshare if the council refuse to budge from their current position.
