Bulls should take the Cup

Hereford United meet Westfields in the final of the Herefordshire Floodlit Senior Invitation Cup tomorrow evening at Edgar Street. The Bulls claimed their place in the final with wins over Bromyard and Kington Town.

Westfields are the county's second side. Currently they play in the Midland Alliance but spent much of last season in the bottom half of the table finally just escaping relegation.

Andy Morris, the well-known Hereford estate agent, is currently the man behind Westfields. He was the driving force in moving the club to the All-pay stadium just a few hundred yards from Edgar Street.

Several of the Westfields squad are former Hereford United players. However best known is Ian (Dodge) Rodgerson who had two spells at Edgar Street and is remembered by many Hereford United fans for scoring the winner in a 3-2 defeat of Yeovil at Huish Park several seasons ago which kept Yeovil in the Conference for another year. Rodgerson helps with both coaching and physio work.

Graham Turner is expected to give several trialists another chance to impress tomorrow evening but will also be mindful that this game gives the Bulls the chance to put some silverware in the Cabinet.

Last years final of this cup, again between Hereford United and Westfields, was played on the first Saturday of August in front of just 575 spectators. The Bulls won 3-0.
