Chester have cancelled the contracts of three players by mutual consent in order to adhere to the League's wage capping rules.
Contradicting reports suggested the club were either just under, or just over, the wage capping rules and board members met with Football League officials yesterday to discuss the situation.
Jermaine McSporran, who only signed for the club in the summer after a lengthy chase by manager Mark Wright, and first year pro's Freddy Potter and Adam Wade - both just six weeks into their first pro deal - have been released by mutual consent for the club to slip beneath the 60% rule.
McSporran is now expected to sign for Grimsby, joining Ricky Ravenhill at the club after the former Doncaster midfielder joined the Mariners after Chester failed to complete a permanent deal for his services.
