Neil Grayson scored a late penalty to give Stafford a 1-1 draw with Burton, and Craig Stanley was booked and set up the second goal as Morecambe beat York 3-2.

Up the divisions Marcus Browning, who was once the subject of a £35,000 bid from the Bulls after scoring five goals in seven games during a loan spell in 1992, was sent off for Bournemouth as they drew with Brighton 2-2.

Paul Parry set up the third Cardiff goal as they drew with Plymouth 3-3, for whom former loanee Tony Capaldi played. Michael McIndoe scored twice to put Barnsley 2-0 up before they were beaten 4-2 by Burnley.
