Preview: Mansfield vs Bulls

The Bulls travel to Field Mill for a league match for the first time in almost 10 years, but it is less than a year since the Bulls beat Mansfield in a cup game.

Last October the Bulls beat Mansfield in the LDV by a goal that was eventually credited as an own goal after Matt Bailey was initially given the honour. Previous trips to the ground have been hard work for Bulls supporters, with just two wins in 13 league trips to Field Mill. Few Bulls fans will forget the Boxing Day 1994 massacre as the Bulls surrendered 7-1 with six second half goals beating keeper Tony Pennock.

Mansfield have dipped in form recently after a decent start to the season. Three draws and a win against a fancied MK Dons side, as well as a win over Huddersfield in the Carling Cup, gave fans hope for a better season this time round but two straight defeats have left the club in 14th place with six points after last season's 16th place finish. There is expected to be one new face in the line up on Saturday, with a loan full back expected to join on Friday after Gareth Jellyman re-injured his left knee against Wycombe last friday.

The Bulls may have taken ten points so far this season, but fans are unimpressed by some of the performances and are demanding more from the side with the solid defence having to do more than their fair share of work to keep the Bulls in games. Scott Tynan's loan extension means he will be expected to continue between the sticks with Wayne Brown only in light training so far and at least a couple of weeks from full fitness.

Mansfield Town vs Hereford United, Field Mill, Saturday 9th September, 3.00pm.
