Management Comments after Saturday

After the game yesterday Graham Turner was asked by a reporter representing the Manchester Evening News what his reaction was to the saves that Wayne Brown pulled off from the two free kicks. Without taking anything away from the keeper Turner explained that the routine is to set the wall to cover one side of the goal with the keeper being responsible for the other. "If the attacker gets the ball up and over the wall there is sometimes little you can do about it - they were both on Wayne's side and I would have been disappointed if he hadn't got to them."

Later, I spoke to John Trewick and asked him if he found it ironic that during a game in which Tim Sills was on the bench, we actually managed to get crosses in from the byeline. Trewick said "I think it was maybe the extra mobility of the Williams/Fleetwood combination that created the space to allow the wide players to get on a bit further. We'll keep working until we get it right - it is showing signs." I also asked him why he'd disappeared towards the end of the Bristol game apparently leaving GT in the technical area on his own. "You may not have been able to see me but I can assure you I did not sit down all evening. We were disappointed with both of their goals and there was plenty of talking on the touchline. We will be going to Grimsby looking for a result."
