Preview: Shrewsbury vs Bulls

The Bulls travel up the A49 for the first FA Cup meeting between the two local rivals.

After meeting last month in the Johnstones Paint Trophy, the clubs meet in a proper cup match with proper first team squads. A healthy 2,007 watched that encounter, and almost as many are expected to make the short trip north to support the Bulls.

In the last trip to Gay Meadow in November 2003, England were crowned Rugby World Cup winners but the party ended there for Bulls fans as a Tamika Mkandawire horror show saw the Bulls suffer a 4-1 humiliation. Only Tam and Rob Purdie remain from that side three years ago, while every Shrew from that game has departed.

Shrewsbury have had an indifferent start to the season after raiding Chester for several of their finer assets over the summer, currently lying in 12th place four points behind the Bulls. One of the players that made the switch to the Shrews in the summer was ex-Bulls keeper Chris Mackenzie, however he may not get a game on Saturday after being displaced by loanee Scott Shearer in last Saturday's goalless draw.

The Bulls will go into the game buzzing after three straight wins, but could suffer from the loss of loan pair John Eustace and Neil Mackenzie. Andy Ferrell and Richard Rose are likely to earn recalls in their places.

Shrewsbury Town vs Hereford United, Gay Meadow, Saturday November 11th, 12noon.
