The Chester/Hereford game has been called off after it was found that the pitch was water-logged.
It is understood that as snow was removed from the pitch the ground was very wet.
Some Hereford United supporters were well on their way to Chester following reports on this site and elsewhere that the game could go ahead. One group had got to Oswestry. Our car load turned around at Onibury just before 11am after being informed that the game was off.
Chester released this statement on their website:
Our match referee Mr. Probert has carried out a 10.45 pitch inspection following snow clearing.
For reasons of player safety, he has decided that today's game will be called off due to the pitch being waterlogged.
No new date has yet been fixed. (speculation suggests either Mar 13th or 20th)
Chester City made every effort to protect the playing surface at the Saunders Honda Stadium from the elements, alas our efforts were in vain given the heavier than anticipated snow last evening.
