Altrincham have been relegated from the Conference after failing to beat Aldershot.
Six teams were still in danger of the drop going into the final day but Alty were in the worst position, two points short of their rivals, and needed other results to go their way. They did, with both Stafford and Grays losing, but their 0-0 draw with the Shots was not enough.
Alty are one of the few part-time clubs remaining in the Conference, operating on a budget one tenth of some of their rivals. They were relegated last season after fielding an ineligible player, and were given a massive points deduction that still irks the club after seeing the likes of AFC Wimbledon and Accrington 'get away with it'. They were saved last season by Scarboro's demotion.
Histon and Droylsden will join the Conference as South and North winners respectively, with two more due for promotion through play-offs.
