A view of Wembley

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of visiting the new Wembley Stadium in London to watch the FA Carlsberg Trophy Final between Kidderminster Harriers and Stevenage Borough. The arch looked spectacular and was visible from far away. The new Bobby Moore statue attracted a lot of interest from both sets of supporters before the game as both soaked up the pre-match atmosphere.

The ground itself was spectacular. With just over 53,000 spectators present for the match, Wembley was just over half full, but the roar when goals went in or when the players came out on to the field was something to remember. However, the atmosphere less than I expected, perhaps due to the large numbers of "Fairweather supporters" from both Kiddy and Stevenage.

Like many Kidderminster fans, we parked in Hillingdon station and took the tube to Wembley station. Very simple, and saves the bother of parking anywhere near the ground. The game ended 3-2 to Stevenage with a late winner from Steve Morison. Jubilation for their supporters whilst Kiddy fans went home disappointed after leading by two goals at the break. However, they'll take good memories back to the West Midlands of their cup final at Wembley. Perhaps next season, Hereford will have the chance to play at the magnificent venue, be it in the Football League Trophy or fingers crossed, in the play-offs. One thing is for sure though, lets hope Hereford aren't playing in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley ever!
