Chester have released Alex Meechan and Dave Artell in a bid to free up wages to attract new players.
Meechan, the former Forest Green midfielder, failed to impress since joining in January while Artell, one of the few bright performers in an otherwise poor season at the Deva, was offered a new deal two weeks ago but has now seen that offer withdrawn following the new managers appointment.
Chester struggled against the wage cap all season and Bobby Williamson will have to clear out players in order to attract new faces including the experienced goalkeeper that Mark Wright failed to find last summer. More players are expected to depart but the existing senior players have all got at least a year left on their contracts and will be costly to remove.
